ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not ready for the 2027 general elections, blaming the party’s lack of a solid structure and internal unity.
Speaking during a live media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike criticized the party’s internal disorganization and questioned its seriousness in preparing for the next electoral cycle.
“The PDP is not ready for the 2027 election. It is very obvious.
“For instance, I have an examination and I am going to class to read. Indeed, am I reading? Am I studying? You don’t need to deceive anybody that you are reading. You are only trying to read so that people will see that you have carried your bag to class.
“That is the situation of the PDP. So, they cannot say for sure that they are ready for 2027. Power struggle cannot help the party”, Wike declared.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and an influential member of the G5 group of dissenting PDP governors, has consistently voiced concerns about the party’s leadership and strategic direction especially since its defeat in the 2023 general elections.
His remarks come at a time when opposition parties across the country are exploring the possibility of forming alliances to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Vanguard reports.
However, ongoing coalition talks have been hampered by conflicting interests among political heavyweights.
Despite the rising urgency among opposition leaders to forge a united front ahead of 2027, Wike’s comments underscore the internal fragility of the PDP and raise questions about its ability to rally effectively for the next election.
