LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Nigerian actor and radio host, Yaw Onu fondly called Yaw, has shared insights into the trend of artists releasing songs with explicit lyrics, hoping they’ll gain more public acceptance.

Referencing artists like Cobhams and Timi Dakolo, known for their soulful music and captivating lyrics, Yaw emphasized that their music lacked explicit content yet they still resonated with global audiences.

He maintained that quality music is still appreciated by music lovers, adding that creating quality content leaves a lasting legacy and a lasting impact in the industry.

Citing his 2024 December concert, which celebrated Nigerian old-school classics, he revealed that the show was an instant hit with fans. He mentioned that veteran musician Daddy Showkey, approached him during the event, expressing amazement at the huge turnout.

“When I did my concert in December for the OGs, do you know what Daddy Showkey told me? He said, ‘Yaw, I no know say people go come out like this for us.’ It was strictly old-school, and the crowd was something else,” he revealed.

Yaw encouraged artists to focus on creating content free from explicit language, believing that high-quality content would still resonate with audiences.

“These days, people think that if they don’t talk dirty, it won’t sell, but if you come out with a good product, people will go for it. That’s what I believe in,” Yaw advised.
