ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stated that President Bola Tinubu inherited an economy that was on life support from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, but has since set the nation on a trajectory of sustainable development.

Speaking during the official flag-off of the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River State, Umahi said, “We came at a time when Nigeria was seriously challenged.”

Reflecting on recent commendations for Nigeria’s economic improvements, the minister remarked, “There’s recognition for Mr. President’s efforts—our economy is in a much better place now. We inherited an economy that was in shock, on oxygen. But the oxygen has been removed. The worst is over.”

He described the coastal highway project as more than just infrastructure, calling it “a strategic investment,” and challenged critics to an “open debate” on its cost-efficiency and value.

Urging citizens to continue praying for President Tinubu, Umahi asserted that no opposition could derail the administration if it remains aligned with “the will of God.”

“Opposition shouldn’t be about destructive talk—it should be about presenting alternatives,” he added.

“When people criticise without solutions, yet the people are happy wherever we go, then we know we’re on the right track.”
