ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, popularly known as Osupa, has withdrawn his legal case against controversial singer Badmus Okikiola, widely known as Portable.
The case, which was being heard at the Upper Area Court 1 in Ilorin, Kwara State, was dropped following a formal application filed by Osupa’s legal representative, Ahmed Opalekunde.
The Kwara State Police Command had arraigned Portable in court on Monday after Osupa submitted a petition accusing the singer of criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public unrest, and cyberstalking.
The charges were based on violations of several legal provisions, including Sections 392, 114, and 397 of the Penal Code; Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015; and Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
According to Osupa’s lawyer, the decision to withdraw the case was influenced by interventions and appeals from respected figures in the entertainment industry and beyond.
He confirmed that Osupa opted for an out-of-court settlement with Portable.
In the official withdrawal letter, Osupa cautioned Portable to refrain from making any further defamatory statements or engaging in actions that could damage his reputation.

The withdrawal letter read, “It’s our client’s (nominal complainant) instruction that the stakeholders in the music industry and other notable personalities in the society have intervened in the matter and pleaded to the nominal complainant to withdraw the case against the defendant in the interest of public peace.
We hereby on behalf of our client apply to withdraw the case against the defendant and terminate same accordingly as the matter had been resolved amicably.
“Further, sir, we want to pray the court to admonish and warn the defendant to desist from any further publications, utterances and any other acts aiming at disparaging the person and businesses of the nominal complainant.”
Osupa had earlier alleged that Portable used a live stream video to insult him, stating that the singer damaged his reputation by claiming he removed his music from Apple Music and Spotify, platforms that could have generated income for him.
The complainant also accused Portable of making additional defamatory statements during the broadcast aimed at tarnishing his image.
According to the petition, during a live Instagram session on March 19, 2025, Portable allegedly made remarks suggesting Osupa was envious of him and trying to sabotage his career. In the viral video, Portable was quoted as saying, “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”
Osupa described the comments as defamatory, inciting, and harmful to his public image, further asserting that the video sparked public tension and unrest.
It is worth recalling that Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi, in a brief ruling delivered on Monday, granted Portable bail set at N1 million, with two sureties.
One surety must be a chairman of the Performing Musician Association of Nigeria, while the other is required to own landed property within the Government Reserve Area under the court’s jurisdiction.
