ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combat drug abuse and trafficking through a strengthened partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Tochi Udeh, pledged enhanced collaboration with the agency to secure the safety, well-being, and prosperity of all residents of Enugu State.

Dr. Udeh made this known during an advocacy visit to his office by the Zonal Commander of NDLEA Zone K, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics (ACGN) Bridget Viashimah, who was accompanied by her team of officials.

He highlighted that the Mbah-led administration is deeply committed to protecting the future of the state’s youth by addressing drug-related dangers through education, effective law enforcement, and proactive measures.

The Attorney General emphasized Governor Mbah’s focus on public enlightenment initiatives particularly targeting young people to educate them on the destructive impact of drug abuse.

He further assured the NDLEA of the state government’s unwavering support for enforcing existing laws to curb drug abuse and trafficking.

“This partnership underscores Gov. Mbah’s dedication to tackling criminal activities and promoting a healthier, safer environment for all. By working together, we can significantly reduce the prevalence of drug abuse and disrupt the operations of traffickers and dealers in the state,” Udeh stated.

He commended the NDLEA’s nationwide efforts to combat illicit drugs and promised continued collaboration and advocacy to discourage individuals from behaviors that could compromise their future.

In her remarks, ACGN Bridget Viashimah stressed the need for stronger synergy between the NDLEA and the Enugu State Ministry of Justice to effectively confront the growing challenge of drug trafficking.

She voiced concern over the rising abuse of crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as Mkpuru Mmiri, which she said has wreaked havoc on the lives of many youths in the region.

In appreciation of Dr. Udeh’s uncommon commitment to justice and his proactive stance against drug-related crimes, ACGN Bridget decorated him as an Ambassador of the NDLEA and presented him with a collection of the agency’s publications highlighting its work and impact.

In a vote of thanks bg Director in the Ministry of Justice, Barr. Uzoamaka Okeji, she expressed gratitude on behalf of the Attorney General and lauded the NDLEA for its relentless efforts toward building a drug-free Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the initiative is in line with governor Mbah’s broader vision of fostering peace, health, and security in Enugu State, creating a supportive environment for development and sustained progress.
