ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Babcock University’s Department of Marketing and Communication has hosted the 7th edition of its annual Youth Empowerment Programme.
The event themed “Cultivating Excellence in Youth” held at the university’s Amphitheatre, brought together over 20 secondary schools from Lagos and Ogun States, with students participating both physically and virtually.
The initiative provided an engaging platform for social interaction, critical thinking, and learning, aligning with Babcock’s commitment to nurturing future-ready leaders.
Guest speaker, Professor Awoyemi Lawal-Arolowo, delivered an inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the importance of resilience, innovation, and self-belief.
“Remember, whatever you believe you can achieve, you can,” she said while addressing the students.

Representing the Senior Vice President of Management Services, Prof. Yacob Haliso, Associate Vice President of ITCT, Prof. Olugbenga Idowu, encouraged the students to pursue excellence and recognize their significant role in shaping society.
A key highlight of the programme was an interschool debate, which sharpened participants’ communication and critical thinking skills.
Babcock Academy clinched the top prize, while Joy Cometh Schools, Ikorodu, and Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu-Ode, came second and third, respectively.
Director of the Department of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, praised the students for their outstanding performance and presented awards to the winners, noting the confidence and clarity displayed by each participant.
The event reinforced Babcock University’s dedication to empowering young minds and fostering a culture of excellence in the leaders of tomorrow.
