ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The House of Representatives has called for expedited justice for victims of gender-based violence, stressing that prompt legal action will help curb the persistent menace.
This demand was made through a motion sponsored by lawmaker Awajiinombek Abiante and three others, who argued that gender-based violence has persisted due to delays in the justice system.

During the motion’s presentation, lawmakers highlighted cases of women who have been murdered over the years, emphasizing that justice remains elusive for many victims.
To address this, the House recommended the creation of specialized divisions within existing courts with exclusive jurisdiction over homicide and related cases.
Lawmakers believe such measures will fast-track justice, reduce case backlogs, and restore public confidence in the judiciary.
The House, therefore, resolved to urge the National Judicial Council (NJC) to designate special divisions within courts at all levels to handle homicide and femicide cases more efficiently.
Additionally, the House called on relevant law enforcement agencies to prioritize homicide investigations and ensure the thorough prosecution of offenders.
