ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Delta State Government has introduced a whistle-blower policy to enable citizens to report substandard and poorly executed projects across the state.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, unveiled the initiative at a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday, emphasizing that it aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to ensuring accountability and value for public funds.
Under the policy, residents can report substandard projects by sending text messages, WhatsApp messages, pictures, or videos to a dedicated whistle-blower hotline at 09169978305.
Aniagwu highlighted that the initiative allows Deltans to actively participate in governance by holding contractors and government officials accountable.

“We are launching this whistle-blower line to ensure that our people, who live in their communities and see these projects firsthand, can alert the government to any form of substandard work,” he stated.
He revealed that reports had already started coming in less than 24 hours after the hotline was made public, with concerns raised over projects failing to meet required standards.
“We are taking this very seriously, and action will be taken against both contractors and government officials who fail in their responsibilities. Governor Oborevwori has made it clear that value for money is non-negotiable,” Aniagwu added.
He warned that no contractor would be exempt, regardless of political affiliations or personal relationships.
“Even if you share the same surname with the governor, you must deliver quality work. The only way the governor will recognize you is by ensuring that the state gets value for its money,” he said.
Reassuring whistle-blowers of their anonymity, Aniagwu stressed that the policy aims to expose any individuals or agencies attempting to defraud the state.
“If a contractor feels that the allocated budget for a project is insufficient, they should communicate with us officially. However, cutting corners or delivering below-standard projects will not be tolerated,” he cautioned.
Describing the whistle-blower hotline as the “hottest line in Delta State,” Aniagwu reiterated the government’s determination to take immediate action on reported cases.
