LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Talented Singer, Arya Starr, has made history winning the prestigious MOBO awards in the Best African Music Act, 16 years after its last female winner.
The 2025 MOBO Awards held on February 18, at the famed Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England, saw Arya defeat Asake, Tems, and South Africa’s Tyla, to earn the Best African Music Act award.
She also gallantly won the Best International Music Act award, beating Megan Thee Stallion, Tems, Latto, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Kendrick Lamar, holding her ground in the international space.

Temporarily held in awe and surprise as her name was declared champion, she claimed the stage in her beige gown visibly happy to accept her first MOBO award.
Her acceptance speech read,
“Okay, this is my first MOBO. And this is the first time I’m winning a MOBO Award—make some noise! I am actually shaking right now. I am actually nervous,”
