ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A security outfit in Anambra State has sparked controversy by declaring its intention to arrest women seen in public without bras or panties.
The announcement was made through a public address system and captured in a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Punch reports.
In the footage, an official of the security outfit, speaking in Igbo, claimed that the directive was issued by the state Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.
He further stated that women wearing only panties in public would also face arrest.

However, Anambra authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the announcement.
Reacting to the development on Monday, former Kaduna State Senator Shehu Sani questioned how the security outfit intends to verify compliance and whether the directive applies to men also.
He posted on X, saying, “Anambra’s bra and pant law. I don’t know if the pant law is applicable to men… and how can the security outfit verify ladies’ compliance?”
Meanwhile, the announcement has triggered widespread reactions online, with many users questioning the practicality and legality of the directive.
A user, Yinka Abolaji (@OmotoshoAYinka), humorously asked, “How will they know the women not on pants? Will they lift their skirts or remove their jeans to check? Asking for a neighbour ni o.”
Another user, @WESTERNERS17, compared the situation to Sharia law, while @SmartVicto39448 criticized the security outfit’s focus on underwear amidst economic hardship and insecurity.
