ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)–Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has voiced his disappointment and concern over the recent defections of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing journalists after the PDP’s Northwest Zonal meeting at Hotel 17 in Kaduna on Saturday, Tambuwal criticized the defections, attributing them to personal gain rather than genuine public interest, describing the trend as driven by “stomach infrastructure.”
“People leave parties for certain reasons or for different reasons, but what I have been observing in the past are defections not based on the interest of the people but based on stomach infrastructure(six)”, Tambuwal said.
He added, “If you are talking about defecting in the interest of the people, I believe no one can go to the APC. If you are a politician with conscience, with the current policies being driven by the government of the APC and the current economic doldrum that the APC has driven Nigerians into hardship across the country and the dismal performance of the Tinubu’s administration, there is nothing attractive outside stomach infrastructure.”
Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District in the Senate, questioned the rationale behind the defections, arguing that no politician with a conscience would align with the APC given its current policies and the economic difficulties Nigerians are facing.
“So, those based on stomach infrastructure are not worrisome. It is for all of us who believe in this country; who believe in the service of the people to continue to come together and work out something that will ensure that by 2027, we ease out this administration that lacks focus, that has no compassion; that do not have any direction and that is riderless,” he stated.

He urged Nigerians with shared values to unite and work towards removing the APC from power in 2027.
Meanwhile, the PDP in the North-West reaffirmed its commitment to providing leadership and advancing the country, pledging to unseat the APC.
In a communiqué read by the North-West Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Bello Gwarzo, the party emphasized its determination to reclaim its rightful position at the national level and lead Nigeria forward.
The meeting underscored the urgency of resolving internal conflicts as the country looks to the PDP for leadership.
Despite the outcome of the 2023 election, the party highlighted its strong grassroots support and widespread national followership, which it aims to mobilize for success in 2027.
“We urge all party members to be patient and heed the advice of elders to solve problems and ensure success in the 2027 election,” the communiqué stated.
Additionally, the party reiterated its resolve to work collectively to remove the APC from power, stating that “in the Northwest, all hands will be on deck to make sure that we clear the bad leadership of the APC in Nigeria.”
The Northwest Zonal meeting was attended by prominent figures, including former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, and PDP National Youth Leader Muhammed Kadade Suleiman.
Other notable attendees included Zonal Party Chairman Bello Gwarzo, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Jigawa State, Mustapha Sule Lamido, and House of Representatives member Sadique Ango Abdullahi.
