ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Russian President Vladimir Putin has told U.S. President, Donald Trump, that peace negotiations to end the Ukraine conflict were possible, the Kremlin announced.
A lengthy phone conversation on Wednesday which lasted nearly one and a half hours, marked the first confirmed direct contact between the two leaders since Trump took office last month.
According to Vanguard, It comes as the Republican leader pushes for a resolution to the nearly three-year-long war.
“President Putin agreed with Trump that a long-term settlement could be reached through peace negotiations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated in a readout of the conversation.

“President Trump spoke in favour of stopping hostilities as soon as possible and solving the problem by peaceful means,” Peskov added.
While Putin reportedly welcomed the idea of negotiations, he also emphasized that any settlement must “address the root causes of the conflict,” though he did not provide further details.
During the discussion, Putin extended an invitation for Trump to visit Moscow.
Beyond Ukraine, the two leaders also talked about a potential prisoner exchange, Iran’s nuclear program, and the broader situation in the Middle East, according to the Kremlin.
Trump described the conversation as “lengthy and highly productive” in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He stated that both sides had agreed to “immediately” begin peace negotiations.
