ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its decision to field Peter Obi as its presidential candidate.
This is as preparations for the 2027 general elections gain momentum.
Obi, a former Anambra State Governor, contested the 2023 presidential election under the LP but lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), finishing third behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, LP National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, declared that Tinubu would not have an easy path to victory in 2027, as the party is set to challenge his administration.
“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027. We are coming back with that Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious,” Arabambi stated.

During the interview, Arabambi also criticized the recent departure of actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo from the LP, describing it as a positive development for the party.
“His resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” he said.
Arabambi accused Okonkwo of lacking loyalty to the party, alleging that he was secretly working for Tinubu and the APC while pretending to support the opposition.
Despite internal disagreements, Arabambi dismissed concerns about a leadership crisis within the LP, insisting that the party remains united and focused on unseating the ruling APC in 2027.
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. Labour Party is not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors,” he affirmed.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the Labour Party has made it clear that Obi remains its preferred candidate, setting the stage for another heated political contest against President Tinubu and the ruling APC.
