ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Indian legislator Gurpreet Gogi, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has tragically died after accidentally shooting himself.
According to his family, the MLA sustained a gunshot wound to his head in an incident that occurred around midnight.
He was immediately rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Gulf News reported early Saturday that Gogi was discovered with fatal bullet injuries late Friday night.
A Punjab Police official confirmed the incident, describing the death as an apparent accident.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja said, “As per the family members, he shot himself accidentally and sustained bullet injuries to his head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital, his body has been kept at the mortuary in the DMC hospital.”
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) stated that the definitive cause of death would be confirmed after the post-mortem report is released.
“Cause of the death will be clear once the post-mortem reports come,” he said.
As Gulf News reported, further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
Gogi, who joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022, gained attention after defeating two-time Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu in the Ludhiana assembly elections.
A similar tragic incident occurred in 2019 when Mississippi state legislature candidate Carl Robinson fatally shot his wife, Latoya Thompson, before taking his own life after being served with divorce papers.
