ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-In a determined effort to ensure a secure festive season, the Enugu State Police Command has made significant strides against crime, arresting two armed robbery suspects and recovering an array of weapons and stolen items in multiple operations across the state.
On November 22, 2024, police operatives from the Abakpa Division, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, intercepted and arrested 29-year-old Daniel Aniude at Abakpa-Nike, Enugu.
The arrest was made known in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command DSP Daniel Ndukwe.
Aniude and his accomplices, who managed to escape, were caught in the act of robbing a female victim.
An imitation pistol was recovered during the operation.
After thorough investigations by the Anti-Robbery Unit, Aniude was arraigned in court and is now remanded in custody.
In another operation, 25-year-old Uzor David from Ebonyi State was apprehended on November 12, 2024.
The suspect had chartered a tricycle in Enugu and attempted to rob the operator at gunpoint upon reaching Nara in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

The suspect shot the tricycle operator in the hand, but swift intervention by local security operatives led to his arrest.
The tricycle, along with a locally made pistol, was recovered, while the injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment and is stable.
The police further demonstrated their effectiveness on December 10, 2024, when they thwarted an armed robbery at Upper Rehab, Emene.
The suspects fled, abandoning a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge.
Similarly, a robbery attempt on College Road, Abakpa-Nike, on December 2, 2024, was neutralized by officers, leading to the recovery of another pistol and live cartridges.
On December 6, 2024, acting on a tip-off, operatives uncovered a concealed Beretta pistol hidden in a sack of cassava flakes at Abakpa Junction Bus Stop, Enugu. Investigations to trace the culprits are ongoing.
Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu commended the officers and collaborating community groups for their commitment to keeping Enugu safe.
Reiterating the Command’s resolve to disrupt criminal activities during and after the yuletide season, he urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
