ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander, General Michael Langley, recently visited Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at Defence Headquarters in Abuja, signaling strengthened security collaboration between the two nations.
In a statement on Wednesday, Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, revealed that Langley was joined by U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills.
During the visit, Langley praised Nigeria’s proactive approach to managing insecurity and acknowledged the country’s strategic leadership in West Africa.
“General Langley praised Nigeria’s approach to tackling insecurity within the country and its strategic leadership role in the sub-region,” Gusau stated.
He also conveyed Langley’s congratulations to Musa for his recent appointment as Chairman of the Committee of ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff.
General Musa expressed Nigeria’s commitment to regional security and counter-terrorism efforts, seeking expanded U.S. support in military training, intelligence sharing, and access to critical equipment.
“The CDS thanked the AFRICOM Commander for his visit and assured him of Nigeria’s dedication to working with other nations to eradicate terrorism and crime,” Gusau said.

Musa also specifically requested U.S. assistance in securing essential weaponry and equipment.
The meeting underscored both nations’ focus on enhancing defence cooperation to address shared security challenges in West Africa.
