ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation following a viral video showing naira notes being lavishly sprayed at a wedding in Kano State on Friday, October 24, 2024.
The incident sparked public backlash, with allegations initially directed at the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, Mrs. Fauziya Danjuma Goje, including criticism from a prominent national newspaper editorial.
In response, the EFCC analyzed the video and confirmed that the naira abuse did occur but clarified that it was not at Goje’s daughter’s wedding, said the Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale,, in a statement on November 11, 2024.

Instead, the incident happened during the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah, daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna (known as Hafsat Gold Nigeria), the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise, which operates in Abuja, Kano, and Dubai.
Haruna acknowledged the video, confirming that the naira abuse took place at her daughter’s wedding on October 24, 2024.
She explained that the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, is from Niger Republic, and the naira and dollar spraying seen in the video was done by members of the groom’s family.
The EFCC has summoned the groom, Mohammad, to its headquarters in Abuja, along with all individuals involved in spraying naira notes at the event.
The Commission praised the public’s vigilance and assured that its campaign against naira abuse will continue.
“The EFCC will not move against anyone wrongly accused of an alleged crime. The Commission remains steadfast in this crusade and would spare no offender, no matter how highly placed”.
