ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, led by Governor Alex Otti, faced a major setback as the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won 15 out of 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the November 2 council elections.
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) claimed victory in the remaining two LGAs, Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa.
Announcing the results, Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. Chima George, spoke at the ABSIEC headquarters in Umuahia on Saturday night.

He highlighted the commission’s efforts to ensure the electoral process was accessible across the state.
“We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on September 5 to carry out,” Prof. George stated. “It wasn’t an easy task, but we made extra efforts to raise awareness about the election across the state.”
Despite the largely peaceful conduct of the election, voter turnout was low, with widespread voter apathy marking the polls.
The victory by the ZLP and YPP indicates shifting political dynamics within Abia State’s local government landscape.
