LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, has endorsed the appointment of Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki as the new First Lady of Akwa Ibom State.
This transition follows the recent passing of her mother, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.
During a condolence visit to the Eno family on Friday, Senator Tinubu praised Governor Umo Eno’s decision, highlighting its resemblance to practices in the United States and its role in preserving the legacy of the late First Lady, particularly through her initiative, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).
Accompanied by Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, along with other state governors’ wives and presiding officers of the National Assembly, Senator Tinubu expressed her condolences to the grieving family.

Governor Umo Eno reflected on his deep emotional bond with his late wife, recalling their journey together since marriage at young ages. “I married her when she was 19, and I was 22. I called her Oluwa-Kemi because she was truly a gift from God,” he said. “Her passing is an irreplaceable loss for me. She was my greatest supporter and toughest critic.”
In announcing the transition of the First Lady’s responsibilities, Governor Eno introduced his daughter, Helen Eno Obareki. He stated, “It is not an easy task ahead, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.” He emphasized that she would work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare to uphold her mother’s legacy.
Senator Tinubu acknowledged Pastor Patience Eno’s commitment to her own national initiatives and her support for her husband’s governance agenda. “Politics aside, we are all Nigerians, and I thank God for the opportunity to show love and care in times like these,” she said. “May God comfort you and your family.”
Turning to Helen, Senator Tinubu offered encouragement, saying, “Helen, your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I believe God will guide you, and you will accomplish even more than your mother.” She assured the young First Lady of the support surrounding her during this challenging time.
