LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed a fire incident at the states Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office reportedly orchestrated by hoodlums.
It also said that electoral materials remained untouched, and the election continued as scheduled.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident during an interview with Channels Television.
She disclosed that although the fire was deliberately set, none of the electoral materials were affected, allowing the electoral process to continue without disruption.

The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the act and bring them to justice.
Security measures have been heightened to prevent further incidents as the election progresses.
She added that, “Some hoodlums partially set the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom ablaze, but the election materials remained intact. The election is also ongoing.”
She added that “security has been beefed up at all AKISIEC offices and strategic locations across the state to prevent further sabotage”.
John asserted that the police are working tirelessly to ensure the elections proceed without a hitch.
