LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)–President Bola Tinubu announced that the Federal Government is prepared to support all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in acquiring Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to facilitate more affordable public transportation.
Tinubu made this statement during his Independence Day address, assuring Nigerians that the country’s energy transition program is progressing as planned.
As the leading advocate for the shift to CNG, the President has been actively promoting its use as a more cost-effective alternative to the highly-priced premium motor spirit for both private and commercial drivers.

Tinubu said, “Our energy transition programme is on course. We are expanding the adoption of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas for mass transit with private sector players. The Federal Government is ready to assist the thirty-six States and FCT in acquiring CNG buses for cheaper public transportation.”
In August of last year, President Tinubu approved the creation of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative to facilitate the widespread transition to CNG.
According to the Presidency, this initiative aims to transform the nation’s transportation sector by introducing over 11,500 new CNG-powered vehicles and deploying 55,000 CNG conversion kits.
In July, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, in partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited, inaugurated 12 CNG stations across the country.
