LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Following the unrest and rioting in the United Kingdom (UK), the Federal Government has issued a stern warning to Nigerians planning to travel to be very vigilant.

The travel security alert was issued by the Federal Government through spokesperson of the Ministry of foreign affairs, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe dated Monday, August 5.

The statement reads in part, “There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK, stemming from the killing of three young girls at a concert.

“The violence has assumed dangerous proportions as evidenced by reported attacks on Law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure.

“To this end, citizens are advised to be extra vigilant and take measures as follows: Avoid political processions and protests, rallies or marches. Avoid crowded areas and large gatherings. Be vigilant and self-aware at all times.”

However, the ministry encouraged citizens to contact the Nigerian High Commission in the UK for relevant information via the following:

1. email (hc@nigeriahc.org.uk),

2. telephone (+442078391244)

Back Story

Violent protests erupted in towns and cities in Britain after three girls were killed and 10 people were injured in a knife attack at a children’s dance class in Southport, in northwest England, last Monday.

The girls’ deaths were seized on by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups as misinformation spread that the suspected attacker was an immigrant and a radical Islamist. Police have said the suspect was born in Britain and are not treating it as a terrorist incident.

Also, The United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Keir Starmer had also condemned the attitude of the racist far-right thugs causing rioting in British towns and cities with a “guarantee” they will face swift justice and “the full force of the law”.
