LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Google has announced an investment in Taiwan’s solar power company, New Green Power, with the option to purchase up to 300 megawatts of renewable energy.
The move is part of Google’s goal to power its operations and suppliers with carbon-free electricity.
According to Google’s Global Head of Data Center Energy, Amanda Peterson Corio, the investment will “facilitate the buildout of [New Green Power’s] large-scale solar pipeline.” The agreement is subject to regulatory approval.

The tech giant aims to reach net-zero emissions across its operations and value chain by 2030, supported by a goal of running on 24/7 carbon-free energy everywhere it operates.
“The path to reach these goals is challenging and requires both commercial efforts and broader energy systems change,” said Peterson Corio. “We’re excited to partner with BlackRock and New Green Power to advance the build-out of clean energy on Taiwan’s electricity grid.”
The partnership expands on Google’s existing collaboration with BlackRock, a leading investor in Taiwan’s solar industry, to promote renewable energy use in the Asia Pacific region.
“BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure business is a delighted to partner with Google to provide a scalable and sustainable energy solution for their operations in Taiwan,” said Ross Mackey, Portfolio Manager at BlackRock.
This follows a similar Google initiative to harness geothermal energy for its data centers.
