ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has announced plans to arrest skitmakers and content creators who release content online without approval.
The board, led by Shaibu Husseini, warned filmmakers and content creators to desist from producing, promoting, and distributing unapproved content on social media platforms, citing a growing concern over violations of Nigeria’s censorship laws.
“The attention of the National Film and Video Censors Board has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous filmmakers/content creators’ who are clearly flouting the provisions of the country’s law with impunity,” the statement began.

Specifically, the board highlighted the illegal production and dissemination of same-sex content on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter, which violates the 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The NFVCB emphasized that all film and video content, including skits and music videos, must be classified by the board before distribution or exhibition on any platform.
The board is collaborating with security agencies to identify and take legal action against offenders, stating, “We are working with relevant security agencies to track the individuals and production companies involved.
“It is also an offence to distribute or exhibit any film or video content including skits and musical videos on any platform without recourse to the National Film and Video Censors Board for classification.”
This move marks a significant crackdown on online content creators in Nigeria, raising concerns about censorship and freedom of expression.
