ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Enugu State Government has launched an initiative to regulate and sensitise herbal medicine practice across the state.
The Regulation and Sensitisation Programme, scheduled for June 26th to July 10th, 2024, aims to integrate traditional practices into the broader healthcare system, ensuring public safety, efficacy, and sustainability.
This was announced in a statement signed by the Commissioner
Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Engr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh.
According to the Commissioner, “This programme is a significant step forward for Enugu State’s healthcare system.
“By promoting regulation, education, and collaboration, we are poised to enhance the quality and reliability of traditional medicine, ultimately benefiting the health and well-being of our citizens.

“By regulating herbal medicine practice, the government aims to safeguard public health, promote sustainable practices, and empower local practitioners with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide high-quality care.”
VONa reports that the programme will feature seminars and workshops, covering all Local Government Councils within the three Senatorial Zones.
The detailed schedule is as follows: Enugu North, Enugu East, and Isi-Uzo at Enugu on June 26th, 2024 (Wednesday), while Opening Ceremony will be at Awgu, Aninri, and Oji River at Awgu on June 28th, 2024 (Friday), Udi and Ezeagu at Udi on July 2nd, 2024 (Tuesday), Udenu, Igbo-eze South, and Igbo-eze North at Obollo-Afor on July 3rd, 2024 (Wednesday), Nsukka, Igbo-Etiti, and Uzo-Uwani at Nsukka on July 5th, 2024 (Friday), and Nkanu West, Nkanu East, and Enugu South at Agbani on July 10th, 2024 (Wednesday).
Each session will bring together modern traditional medicine practitioners from various local government areas, providing a platform for education, regulation, and collaboration.
This initiative underscores Enugu State Government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, ensuring the safety and efficacy of herbal medicine, and integrating traditional practices into the broader healthcare system.
Modern traditional medicine practitioners are also invited to participate and register by contacting the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
