ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Enugu State Government through the State Ministry of Health, has urged residents to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of cholera outbreak that is affecting several states in Nigeria.
The government noted that the state is currently free from cholera outbreak that has affected approximately 30 states in Nigeria, including some neighboring states.
While the government has not yet confirmed any cases, it is urging residents to take preventive measures to protect themselves and their community.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by Enugu State Commissioner for Health Prof Emmanuel Obi, on Monday.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoea infection caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, which spreads through contaminated food and water, especially during floods or inadequate sanitation conditions.
However, to prevent the spread of cholera, residents are advised to: boil or treat drinking water to ensure its safety, wash hands frequently with soap and clean running water, avoid consuming raw or undercooked food, cook food thoroughly, avoid street food or food from unhygienic sources, wash fruits and vegetables properly, educate family, friends, and neighbors about cholera prevention, report any symptoms promptly to health authorities nearest to you, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms persist.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Ministry of Health has pre-positioned drugs and consumables to contain the outbreak in case it affects the state.
The government further urged residents to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of cholera.
Although Enugu State has not reported any confirmed cases yet, the government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its residents.
