Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, released a statement announcing President Tinubu’s plans to attend Ramaphosa’s inauguration, marking his second term as President of South Africa.
Ramaphosa’s African National Congress (ANC) party formed an unprecedented coalition government after the ANC won only 40% of the vote in the recent election.
This election marked a significant turning point in South Africa’s history, ending three decades of ANC dominance.
Lawmakers in Cape Town voted overwhelmingly to put Ramaphosa back in office for another five years after the May 29 general election produced no outright winner.
The party that led the anti-apartheid struggle won only 40 per cent of the vote and, for the first time, lost its absolute majority in parliament.
The ANC, however, struck a deal to form what it calls a government of national unity.
