ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday visited the wife of President, Bola Timubu, Remi Tinubu, in Lagos, to felicitate with her on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.Â
This visit comes despite Obasanjo’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, which President Bola Tinubu won.
According to a media aide to the President’s wife, Busola Kukoyi, Obasanjo’s visit was a courtesy call to celebrate the Sallah holiday with Remi Tinubu.Â

Kukoyi shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) with a photo of Obasanjo and Remi Tinubu, captioning it: “Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the Former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday 17th June.“
In the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo had publicly endorsed Peter Obi, stating: “None of the contestants is a saint, but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline, and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge.”
Tinubu had visited Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence but the former President did not endorse the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Despite Obasanjo’s endorsement, Tinubu won the election and was inaugurated as President on May 29, 2023. Notably, Obasanjo has been absent from many state functions that had past Presidents and Heads of State in attendance.
However, his visit to Remi Tinubu suggests a possible thaw in relations between the two leaders.
