LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Canadian Federal Government has encouraged businesses and investors from Canada to consider the potential opportunities available in Nigeria’s gas industry.Â
This appeal was emphasized by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, during a gathering at the Nigerian High Commission in Alberta, Calgary.
He conveyed this message while participating in the ongoing Global Energy Show.
Ekpo emphasized that achieving a sustainable energy future depends on collaboration, innovation, and a collective dedication to tackling global energy issues.
He portrayed the Global Energy Show as a venue where leading figures and experts in the energy industry come together, providing a platform to spotlight Nigeria’s significant potential in the global energy arena, especially within the gas sector.
“We welcome Canadian businesses and investors to explore Nigeria’s vast opportunities. Our government is dedicated to ensuring a stable and conducive environment for investments, with a focus on transparency, efficiency, and mutual benefit,” Ekpo said.

Ekpo highlighted Nigeria’s significant endowment of one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, emphasizing the country’s dedication to leveraging this resource not just to drive economic expansion but also as a crucial element of its energy transition strategy.
He pointed out that over recent years, the Nigerian government has achieved notable progress in establishing favorable conditions for investment in the gas sector.
He highlighted the launch of initiatives like the Decade of Gas aimed at transitioning Nigeria into a gas-driven economy by 2030.
Additionally, he noted that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021 established the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), this fund sets out a strategic framework designed to eliminate obstacles, stimulate investments, and create a favorable environment for the development of gas infrastructure.
Ekpo encouraged private sector investors to view Nigeria as a preferred destination, emphasizing their crucial role in advancing the nation’s journey towards energy security and sustainability.
