ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) — Contrary to rumors, the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage has not agreed on a figure of N105,000 as the new minimum wage, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has said.
Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarified that no such decision has been reached, despite a five-hour meeting on Thursday.
He said the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage will finalize a new wage figure today, Friday, 7th June to finalize a new wage figure, which is expected to be above N60,000, as committed by President Bola Tinubu.
“No such decision has been reached. However, workers can expect the new minimum wage figure to be announced after Friday’s meeting,” he said.

The committee also met on Wednesday at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja. Federal Government representatives included Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Labour Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, representatives of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the Head of Service of the Federation.
Representing Organized Labour were Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero and Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Festus Osifo.
It would be recalled that one condition for suspending the strike on Tuesday was that the committee would meet daily for one week until an agreement on a new minimum wage was reached.
President Bola Tinubu directed the committee on Tuesday to expedite the process and present their figures to him.
The President expressed his commitment to a wage above N60,000, while the TUC and NLC indicated they were flexible on their N494,000 demand.
The Organized Labour suspended its indefinite strike on Tuesday after agreeing with the Federal Government of Nigeria to continue negotiations daily.
Wednesday’s meeting was the first following this agreement.
