LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –After nearly two and a half years in detention, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has been released from the Kuje Custodial Center in Abuja.
His release on Friday came after fulfilling the necessary bail conditions.
According to Adamu Duza, spokesperson for the Service, Kyari’s temporary release was granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja to allow him to pay his respects to his late mother, Yachilla Kyari, who passed away on May 5, 2024.

As the eldest of 10 children, Kyari was granted a two-week bail to travel to his home state of Borno and complete his mother’s burial rites.
Kyari’s release is temporary, as the court will reconvene on May 31 to determine his bail application in the ongoing trial related to drug-related charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The charges stem from his arrest over two years ago, when two suspected drug traffickers, Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne, implicated Kyari in a drug cartel during their arrest at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
