LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has said that Federal Government is ready to improve national security by installing electronic boarding gates across major borders in the country.

The minister noted that the technology will detect criminal activities, and enhance effective boarder management procedures.

Tunji-Ojo made this disclosure during inspection of facilities at Terminal Two of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, at the weekend.

He stated that the Tinubu-led government would do all it takes to ensure all borders in the country are protected and secured using modern necessary technology.

The Federal Government is making all efforts to make sure facilities at the airports meet the global standards, he said.

The Minister said the electronic boarding gates have become imperative because of their roles in ensuring smooth passenger facilities at airports, and in capturing data to monitor the movement of persons into the country as the government scales up its national security architecture.

Besides Abuja Airport, where the technology has been fully deployed, the Minister said the facility in Lagos was inching towards completion as an acceptance users test is being carried out

When the facility at Lagos at the Lagos Airport is completed, the Minister said it will be extended to Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu airports.
