LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –Nigerian football stars Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been left out of the running for Serie A’s end-of-season awards.Ā
The Italian football federation announced its nominees on Wednesday, and neither player made the cut.
Osimhen, who won the Striker of the Year award last season, was notably absent from the shortlist for the same category this year.
Despite scoring 15 goals and providing three assists in 24 appearances for Napoli, he was overlooked in favor of AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, Roma’s Paulo Dybala, and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.
Meanwhile, Lookman, who had a phenomenal season with Atalanta, was snubbed for the best midfielder award.Ā

His impressive 15 goals in 29 league appearances and leadership of Atalanta to the Italian Cup and Europa League finals were not enough to secure a nomination.
Instead, the nod went to Atalanta playmaker Teun Koopmeiners, Scudetto winner Hakan Calhanoglu, and Milan wideman Christian Pulisic.
Inter Milanās Alessandro Bastoni is on the Lega Serie A Defender of the Year shortlist, along with Juventus and Bologna centre-backs Gleison Bremer and Riccardo Calafiori.
Juventusā Wojciech Szczesny, Monzaās Michele Di Gregorio, and Atalantaās Marco Carnesecchi will all compete for the best custodian title.
Matias Soule, a Juventus loanee from Frosinone, Torino winger Raoul Bellanova, and Bolognaās top scorer Joshua Zirkzee are among the candidates for Young Player of the Year honours.
The awards, now in their sixth season, are based on a variety of variables, including monitoring data statistics and the āscientifically provenā player rating system, which assesses playersā in-game impact, movement, and decision-making abilities.
