LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has unveiled plans to arrange the marriages of 100 female orphans who lost their parents to banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area.
Sarkindaji made this announcement during a press briefing in Minna, the state capital, on Friday.
He committed to covering the dowries for the bridegrooms and has secured all necessary resources for the mass wedding ceremony.
The selected girls were chosen from a group of 170 whose names were submitted, Sarkindaji confirmed, although he did not specify their ages.

Representing the Mariga Constituency, the Speaker described the initiative as part of his constituency’s empowerment project.
“aimed at alleviating the suffering of the impoverished.”
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State and Emir Mohammed Barau of Kontagora have been appointed as guardians for the female orphans during the mass marriage ceremony.
The event, scheduled for May 24 in Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area, is expected to be attended by Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board.
