She had been imprisoned because she had convinced her online boyfriend to kill her mother. Blanchard’s story brought attention to Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder that her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, is said to have suffered from. It also inspired a popular crime drama, a documentary, a book, and more.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, 32, was freed after eight years rather than the originally scheduled ten, having completed 85 percent of her original sentence.
