ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In a bid to combat insecurity and oil theft in the Niger Delta region, President Bola Tinubu has called upon traditional rulers to collaborate in maintaining lasting peace and security.
The aim is to ensure maximum oil production and bolster the region’s economy.
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, delivered this message during a forum with the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, hosted by their Chairman, His Majesty, Major-General (Retd.) Felix Mujakperuo, Orhue I, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom.
In attendance were prominent figures such as the Council’s Vice Chairman, the Pere of Akugbene Mien, Luke SP Kalanama VIII; the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, Noble Eshemitan, Uku Oghara N’ame, Orefe III; the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty Monday Whiskey, Udurhie I; the Ovie of Abraka kingdom, Luke Erede Ejohwomu, Adakaji; as well as the Osuivie of Agbarho Kingdom, His Majesty Samson Owheriijesu Ogugu I, among others.
The Minister emphasized the government’s recognition of the critical role traditional rulers play in maintaining peace within communities and their vital contribution to the nation’s economic well-being. He highlighted the importance of peace and security in the Niger Delta for maximizing Nigeria’s economic potential.

Despite the challenges posed by deteriorating federal roads in the region, the Minister pledged to collaborate with the Minister of Works to expedite road construction projects.
He reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development for the betterment of Nigerians.
Mujakperuo, speaking on behalf of the Traditional Rulers Council, pointed out that the region’s high rate of insecurity and kidnappings is partly attributed to the poor state of roads.
He appealed to the federal government to address this issue promptly. Additionally, he expressed concern about numerous abandoned projects by the Niger Delta Development Commission and called for transparency regarding the forensic audit conducted on the Commission.
The Delta State Traditional Rulers Council presented a letter to the visiting Minister, urging him to convey their concerns to Mr. President and emphasizing the importance of addressing the region’s challenges honestly and effectively.
