ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reports successful operations across several states resulting in the interception of illicit drugs and the destruction of a significant cannabis cultivation site.
In the course of interdiction operations spanning Lagos, Kogi, FCT, Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Edo states, the NDLEA intercepted over four tons of controlled substances, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas), skunk, codeine syrup, methamphetamine, and tramadol.
Among the highlights of these operations, NDLEA operatives seized 1,194 cylinders of laughing gas, weighing 2,547.2 kilograms, concealed in two Toyota Sienna buses along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway. The two suspects, Onyebuchi Ikpozu and Kenneth Igwe, transporting these consignments to the Federal Capital Territory, have been apprehended.
In another operation, a 48-year-old woman named Mrs. Ugo Eluba was arrested in Abuja in connection with the interception of 2,400 ampules of pentazocine injection and 100,000 tablets of Exol-5 in Kogi state.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives seized 977 kilograms of skunk in a trailer in Ondo state, destined for distribution in Sokoto State and Gwagwalada, FCT. The agency arrested suspects Auwal Mohammed and Abdullahi Abubakar in connection with this seizure.
In various other operations, NDLEA apprehended individuals with methamphetamine, cannabis, tramadol, and other illicit substances. Notably, the agency recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa concealed in a commercial vehicle traveling from Ogere, Ogun state, to Kano.
Furthermore, NDLEA destroyed a massive cannabis cultivation site covering 16 hectares of farmland in Ekiti state, eradicating 40 tons (40,000 kilograms) of cannabis plants.
The NDLEA also conducted War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization lectures and advocacy visits across the country, spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
