LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his disappointment with three key decisions that appeared to go against his team in Sunday’s thrilling 3-1 loss to Arsenal.
Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus secured a dramatic stoppage-time victory for the Gunners in a highly entertaining match.
The game seemed poised to end in an intense draw after a penalty awarded for a foul on Kai Havertz was overturned following a pitchside review, and VAR disallowed substitute Alejandro Garnacho’s late goal for a marginal offside call.
Ten Hag attributed United’s defeat to several refereeing choices, stating that “everything seemed to go against us.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Dutchman said, “Our performance was decent. I believe we played a very good game, but it felt like everything was working against us, and as a result, we couldn’t secure the win.
“We needed a bit of luck to come out on top. The decision on Alejandro Garnacho’s goal wasn’t correct; it was the wrong angle.
“Additionally, there was a potential penalty for [Rasmus] Hojlund, and we conceded a goal where there was a clear foul on Jonny Evans. It was evident and undeniable.
“While it’s true that we should have converted our chances and not allowed a goal after taking a 1-0 lead, I was satisfied with the overall performance.”
Referring to the penalty incident involving Hojlund, former Premier League referee Mike Dean told Sky Sports, “I don’t think that’s a penalty”.
“It looks like solid defending to me. Both players were jostling, and Gabriel’s arms were in position. However, from a different angle, Hojlund was holding onto Gabriel’s left arm, essentially pulling the defender down. I would have no issues with that decision.”
