LAGOS, NIGERIA, (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerian songstress, Ayra Starr has berated the organizers of the Headies Award following the off-stage announcement of the “Best Female Artist” category and their attitude towards female musicians.
The 2023 Headies Award was held on September 3, at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It was a star-studded event that brought together influential figures from the African music industry to celebrate and recognize the outstanding achievements of Nigerian music.
Starr outshined industry giants Tiwa Savage, Simi, and Tems to claim victory in the highly competitive Best Female Artiste category at the 16th edition of the Headies.

However, the event was brought to an abrupt end with about 14 awards left to be presented, including ‘all-female category awards’
The “Rush” crooner expressed her displeasure with the Headies in a Twitter post on monday, chiding the organizers for not presenting the award live on stage.
She wrote, “I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage! Best female artist, na beans ?” Ayra Starr fumed on X.
“We work hard, every single one of us! I’ve seen Tiwa record four hit songs in the same night; Tems breaths and lives for music. We didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria, you didn’t raise me to settle for less.”
