Yeni Kuti, the eldest daughter of the legendary Afrobeat musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has opened up about how her father didn’t give any of his children preferential treatment.
Speaking on various issues during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Chudeity, the matriarch of the Anikulapo dynasty disclosed that being Fela’s daughter didn’t make her feel special while he was alive as he was not the kind of man that will treat anyone specially.
Speaking further, Yeni said her father, Fela was a good man in his own way but not the kind of man anyone would want in the conventional sense.
According to her, being Fela’s child when he was alive didn’t mean anything to him because he saw every child like any other child on the street.
“My father should have stayed without children because he didn’t give any child preferential treatment because you are his child. He should have just been the father of the nation.

“He didn’t die a happy man because he was very sick and died of AIDS which was announced when he died so that people won’t start digging to find out what killed Fela”.
Yeni who is a dancer disclosed that she enjoyed being a dancer not because she wanted to make money from it.
Yeni Kuti, popular media personality and elder sister of Grammy-nominated afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti, also revealed why the singer’s ex-wife, Funke, left the singer.
She said Funke walked out of the marriage because of “communication breakdown.”
In her own words: “I think [Femi and Funke’s divorce was a result of] a communication breakdown. Because Funke even now says if she had known then what she knows now, she probably wouldn’t have left the marriage. So, I think it was a communication breakdown.
“You know, you need to know our people, our people, we can be very devilish. If you see something that is good, it’s how you will bring it down that you will now focused on.
“So, a lot of people have been talking to her. It’s just like me, people are saying, ‘Why are you still dancing for your brother? Go and form your own band.’ Which band do I want to form? Did I ever come and meet you that I want to form a band?”

Speaking about her marriage, the media personality, said she cannot leave her husband for any other woman even if he is caught having extra marital affair.
She said dumping her marriage because of rivalry with another woman or that her husband cannot happen.
She said her late father, Fela, had 27 wives and that never made her mother abandon her marriage.
So, this was enough reason for her to stick to her husband through thick and thin.
Yeni said: “I won’t leave my husband if he is cheating. That is me. You can leave your own husband if he is cheating. That is you. Don’t judge me, I’m not judging you.
“My father had 27 wives, my mother didn’t go. It’s me that will now come and go because of one girl. It cannot happen.”
