LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Romelu Lukaku asserts that he has always known Inter would step in to save him if his situation at Chelsea did not work out.
The Belgian striker made his way back to San Siro just one year after signing with Chelsea for a then-club-record ÂŁ100 million transfer fee in the summer of 2022.
Thomas Tuchel’s tactical demands in west London proved difficult for him to adapt to, and he only managed 15 goals in 44 appearances before being sold back to Inter for a loan price of ÂŁ6.8 million, with the possibility of performance-related add-ons.

Now, Lukaku claims that he has always had a fallback position in mind in case things don’t work out at Chelsea.
Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, he said: “I was good at Chelsea last season. But I knew then that if it didn’t work out at Chelsea, I still had Inter. When I signed again, I knew: I belong here. I had that too at Anderlecht. I take this club seriously. I want to do my best. The people here see that. Being encouraged here is the best thing there is.”
The loan agreement between Lukaku and Inter expires in the summer, and Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta said there is a “six out of 10” possibility that he would return to Stamford Bridge.

However, the forward reiterated that he is not planning for the long term at this time and is not yet prepared to pledge his future to Chelsea.
“We’ll see, I live from day to day. I don’t experience any stress or pressure. A decision must be made. That’s it,” he said in the Amazon documentary One for All.
Recently, Lukaku’s form has improved, and he will be trying to earn a spot in the starting lineup to help Inter defeat Fiorentina on Wednesday night at Stadio Olimpico and win the Coppa Italia title.
