LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Magistrate’s court sitting has arraigned one Eucharia Ndigwa for hitting her 15-year-old ward with a kitchen knife at Ijanikin in Ojo Local Government of Lagos State.

The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate LA. Owolabi on a one-count charge bordering on physical assault.

The charge read: “That you, Eucharia Ndigwa, on 19 May, at No, 18, Simeon Oyemofe Street, Ijaniki, Lagos, did hit a 15-year-old with a kitchen knife which caused her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

Counsel to the defendant, Bartholomew Aguegdo, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal terms, considering the pressure the pregnant defendant has faced in the cause of the investigation and her detention.

Magistrate Owolabi countered the request, noting that there is a good medical structure for whatever correctional facility is available in the state.

He however, granted the defendant bail of N100,000 with two sureties of like sum, of which one must be a blood relation to the defendant.

The case was adjourned till 27 June for mention.
