The photos of Mr and Mrs Moses Teghtegh Gbyange, a couple based in Benue State who celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary recently, have garnered reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Photos snapped to celebrate their wedding anniversary were shared on Facebook by Favour Adah Paul on 16 April.

The couple celebrated their anniversary in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

Reacting to the photos, a netizen, Love Always, said: “They still look like people in love. Congratulations to them, and may God continue to uphold them, in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen”

Another netizen, Word, wrote: “We should celebrate more of this long partnership for the sake of our badly trained, morally compromised and disrespectful youths.

“Make no mistake about what made this relationship last long. In monetary terms, this couple put in ₦100bn worth of mutual trust, compromises, forgiveness, patience, friendship, understanding, kindness, keeping less malice and having love for each other. The marriage institution is the hardest college to graduate from coz it’s infinite.

“It’s a gruelling work of trials and errors, successes and failures. While our current society tends to headline divorces and breakups more coz bad news sells faster, majority of marriages in Nigeria are actually long lasting.

“The phenomenon of babymamaism is a new thing to our culture coz, it used to expressly abhor single women living alone without husbands by their sides. The concept of polygamy was introduced aeons ago to discourage single maidens and honour women.

“A few decades ago, communities seriously frowned at unmarried women living alone with kids coz every woman deserves a male companion by her side.

“To be a baby mama 30 years ago is to live in perpetual shame. People would look at you with aspersion. As a result, women would rather die than become pregnant without marrying.

“The modern time is gradually making nonsense of this to the point where some misguided women have begun to even celebrate divorces.

“Women are marrying women and men aren’t left behind in this macabre lifestyles. Our young girls are wrongly embracing motherhood without fatherhood being involved.

“Granted that some women do this out of desperation to beat their biological clocks, but how do you explain a girl who’s barely 25 but already living life as baby mama to a serial baby daddy?

“There’s absolutely no glamour or sense in it coz kids need two parents to bring up a child into successful adolescence. Everyone should strive to marry the right person and live together in happiness and peace.

“That’s what the human race should continue to aspire for coz it stabilizes the ingredients that hold the human race firmly together and make the society much more civic, lawful and egalitarian.

“Most of the criminals in our midst are products of bad parenting and mostly single parenting.

“A child needs the love of his mother and the discipline of his father. Some parents don’t even deserve to have kids coz they behave like kids themselves.

“This very unique 66 years of marriage deserves special recognition and great applause in this current generation of marital despair and apathy. Marriage no be Moinmoin, but if you’re lucky to marry your friend, you’re good to go.”

Raymond Dibio, on his part, said: “I only wanted to see the pictures of their younger days, anyway congrats to them.”
