Cashier Absconds With Employer’s N1.8m In Lagos

LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A 29-year-old cashier, Olasumbo Sammie, has been arraigned for allegedly running away with proceeds of shaving sticks and blades worth N1.8m belonging to her employer.

Sammie, employed as a cashier in 2022, was alleged to have sold the shaving sticks and blades but failed to remit the proceeds to his employer.

The Police arraigned the defendant before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, on two counts of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, said the offences were contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read, “That Olasumbo Sammie from 1 February 2022, till February 2023 at No 74 Docemo Street, Idumota Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

Magistrate P. E. Nwaka granted Sammie bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Nwaka adjourned the case till 5 July 2023.
