Mixed reactions have trailed the viral video of a female civilian slapping a soldier who allegedly assaulted her first in a mall over accusation that she is a thief.
While questioning her at the mall, the soldier took laws into her own hands by slapping the young lady whom she accused of being a thief.
The lady who then got into a scuffle with the soldier, landed back a slap at the security operative while also stating that she is not a thief.
Reacting to the video, a netizen said: “Why are many of these soldiers like this? Must they harrass people in the name of uniform? I pity the lady though because I doubt that anyone will come to her rescue. After all, na soldier and no-one wants to step on their toes as it were.”
Another netizen applauded the lady for defending herself. “She defended herself. Good move. They start behaving like thugs and like they are above the law the moment they get into that uniform,” the person wrote.
KUI blamed it on non-commissioned lower ranked soldiers who often act out of frustration.
“It’s the non commissioned lower ranked soldiers that act out frustration meted to them in the barracks to civilians.
“Many of my military officer friends, most of whom are a mix of one star generals and red necks, whenever we happen to be in same car for a night out and they are stopped by policemen at checkpoints put on their light, even open their boots and never declare themselves unless the policeman asks they identify themselves and it’s funny the way they behave afterwards.
“Even when you need them to help with soldiers to take care of some situations with agberos. They are cautious unless it’s very serious, because knowing their unruly overzealous junior colleagues.
“They know situation can deteriorate to someone getting shot and killed, times have witness a very junior officer, a Major just because he doesn’t like a recruit’s face or just not in good mood lock up a corporal for no reason in the guard room and the Major’s seniors would ignore and look away. Na for street dey get gragra.
“Perhaps my military friends are the cool headed and have self control.. ordinarily you would expect them to flash their I.D. card whenever they are stopped by police but they never do, na when you own don dey too much , then you know you were talking to a one star general. If am not mistakened a DPO is equivalent to a major in the army.”
