LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Magistrate’s court siting in Ogba, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of 59-year-old man, Oyekola Ayorinde for defiling a 14-year-old female relative who resides in his family house.
According to reports by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that got wind of the case, the victim (name withheld), a distant relative of Ayorinde, was residing in his house with his wife and children.
She had repeatedly complained about the unjust treatment she has received from her hosts over the years. The victim revealed to the NGO about the intimidation she had been subjected to, including verbal abuse.
According to her, unknown to every other person in the house, Ayorinde was defiling her and harassing her sexually.
She stated that she struggled to focus in class and experienced anxiety whenever school was about to end or during holidays.
The defendant’s action was reportedly made public, after he defiled the victim on 30 April.
He was arrested at the gender section, Ikeja and arraigned before Magistrate E. Kubeinje on 10 May.
Police Prosecutor, DSP K. Ajayi told the court that the defendant was apprehended where he committed the crime, at Millennium estate, Ikorodu.
The charge read: “That you, Oyekola Ayorinde ‘m’ on the 30th day of April, 2023 at about 1400hours at Millennium Estate, Ikorodu-Lagos did defile a 14years old and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 137 of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2015.
Magistrate Kubeinje did not take the plea of the defendant as she ordered the his remand pending advice from the Director of Prosecution.
The case was adjourned till 13 May for trial.
