LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Arsenal will host more Women’s Super League games at Emirates Stadium in the upcoming season as a result of this campaign’s triumphs.
The 3,400-seat Meadow Park in Boreham Wood is the normal home of the Arsenal.
However, the three WSL games they played at the Emirates this season—against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham—racked up enormous ticket sales of 139,000.
With 53,000 tickets sold, the WSL’s north London derby in September 2022 set a record.
Arsenal has announced that five women’s top-flight league games would be staged at the Emirates next season as a result of the popularity of the three games.
Additionally, this season, Arsenal had a spectacular run to the Women’s Champions League semifinals.
The Gunners then suffered a shocking loss to Wolfsburg at the Emirates during the round of 16, a venue where they had played all of their home European matches.
According to the club, this will continue into the following season, with all games beginning in the group stage set to take place at the Emirates, pending their qualification for the UWCL.
Arsenal’s CEO Vinai Venkatesham said: “We’re delighted to confirm that our women’s first team will play five WSL games at Emirates Stadium next season.”
The Gunners head to ninth-placed Brighton later on Wednesday needing three points to sustain the pressure on Manchester City in third place. They are currently fourth in the UWCL standings, three points outside the top three.
