ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Some irate youths have stoned to death two armed robbery suspects and set them ablaze at the Popoyemoja area, the Ibadan South East Local Government area of Oyo State.

Punch reports that the suspects were lynched after snatching a mobile phone from a passerby around 6.30am.

It was gathered that three suspects were involved but one of them escaped.

An eyewitness who gave his name as Dimeji Ogunesan, said the suspects were reported to have been responsible for many robbery cases recorded in the Akuro, Iyana Lodge, Sharp Corner, Odion, and Popoyemoja areas, among others, all within the Ibadan metropolis before nemesis caught up with them.

Ogunesan said: “They have successfully robbed their victim, but youths of the community were said to have chased them after an alarm was raised by the owner of the snatched phone. After that, they went to another place to rob.

“The robbery suspects had earlier robbed successfully, shot and snatched a motorcycle from an unidentified person at the Ososanmi area of Ibadan after which they had escaped before getting to Akuro where they launched another attack.

“The youth pursued them and later caught up with them. One of the robbers reportedly escaped while the two others were unlucky. They were attacked with stones and other dangerous objects before they were set ablaze in the Ogunpa drainage. The gun and cutlass which they used to operate were said to be on them and the snatched motorcycle were all destroyed by the mob.”

As of press time, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, was not reachable on the telephone for comment.
