ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Police Operatives of Enugu State Command have recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with one live cartridge.
A press statement issued by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, and obtained by voiceofnaija.ng, revealed that the gun was abandoned by escaping armed robbery suspects at New Artisan, Enugu.
He said the recovery was facilitated through assistance from the Neighborhood Watch Group, who alerted the Police that the criminal elements were seen in the area.
“At about 1.30am, [we] recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with one (1) live cartridge, abandoned by escaping armed robbery suspects at New Artisan, Enugu.
“The recovery was due to the Operatives, with assistance from the Neighborhood Watch Group, swiftly responding to credible information that the criminal elements were sighted in the area,” the statement partly read.
In a different development also, Police Operatives serving in Abakpa Division, while working with personnel of the Neighborhood Watch Group, arrested three male suspects namely.
They are; Chidera Eze aged 25, Ifesi Agbo aged 23 and Arinze Akoma aged 20.
The suspects were arrested while they were vandalizing the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Transformer, at Church Road Housing Estate, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu.
The suspects, who are specialized in vandalizing transformers and other public assets, confessed to committing the crime, while the tricycle they used for operation, robber hand gloves, spanners, adjustable wrenches and other workshop tools were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, the case is undergoing further discreet investigation at the State CID, Enugu, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
