LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- An Ogudu Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Idris Umai for allegedly abducting and defiling a teenager.

The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate Mrs M.O Tanimola on 17 April, facing a two-court charge.

According to the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Donjour Perezi, committed the offence on Oct 2022 in Sanusi Estate, Mile 12, Lagos.

Perezi alleged that Umai took the 17-year-old girl close to her house, on her way back from school.

“The defendant conspired with one Faziya Abubakar, Mohammed Motali, Abubakar Mohammed, Amina Aminu and Aisha Ibrahim all of Mile 12 to abduct the girl,” he said.

Umai’s offence contravenes the provisions of sections 173 and 268 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Section 268 states that “Any person who, with intent to marry or have sexual intercourse with a female of any age, or to cause her to be married, takes her away or detains her against her will is guilty of a felony and is liable to seven years imprisonment if found guilty”

Magistrate Tanimola, did not take the defendants plea as she ordered the Umai’s remand at the kirikiri correctional facility pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case was adjourned till May 5, 2023 for mention.
